Renata Miller is a dedicated community leader, advocate, and lifelong Detroiter with a deep commitment to preserving the city’s history, empowering its residents, and ensuring responsible governance. She is running for Detroit City Council, District 5, to bring a bold vision of transparency, accountability, and equity to the city she loves.
A UAW retiree, Renata understands the value of hard work, labor rights, and economic opportunity. Her leadership in historic preservation and neighborhood advocacy has made a lasting impact, particularly in Indian Village, where she has served as president, vice president, and membership chair of the Historic Indian Village Association. In these roles, she fought to protect the neighborhood’s historic designation, attended City of Detroit zoning and Historic District Commission hearings, and worked to ensure responsible development that respects the city’s heritage while fostering progress.
Renata’s dedication to service extends beyond her neighborhood. She has been a founding member of the Detroit Historic District Alliance (DHDA) and has represented the community as an ambassador to the Detroit Opera House for over four years. She has also championed youth development through her work with The Lawn Academy, a program that teaches young people valuable life skills through outdoor service and environmental stewardship.
Her leadership has not come without challenges. Renata has faced personal adversity including both health and financial. However with the drive and resilience of a true native Detroiter, and support of family and friends alike, she has overcome these challenges. She knows well the importance of advocacy for neighbors enduring hardship. These experiences have strengthened her resolve to fight for policies that protect homeowners, working families, and vulnerable residents from displacement.
